Watford centre-back William Troost-Ekong has announced his departure from the England Championship football club. The current vice-captain of the Super Eagles of Nigeria revealed on Monday that his three-year tenure with the club has come to an end. In a heartfelt message shared on his verified Instagram account, Ekong expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to his experience at Watford, including medical staff, security officers, and stadium volunteers.
In his post, he stated, “The moment has come for me to move on from @watfordfcofficial after three special seasons shared with everyone involved. From everyone at the restaurant, security workers, volunteers at the stadium, to the medical and office staff, you have made my time what it was.” He extended his thanks to the coaches and, most importantly, his teammates, saying, “I can only say thank you!!!”
Ekong also acknowledged the Pozzo family for their belief in him during the significant five years of his career at both clubs, highlighting the promotion and the opportunity to fulfill his boyhood dream of playing in the Premier League. He expressed his appreciation to the fans, stating, “Thank you for your support; it has been special going from watching as a boy to stepping on the pitch as a player. Now a fan again, I wish for promotion just as much as all of you and will be back watching from the stands in the future. COYH! All the best,” he added.
