Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has made a remarkable promise to offer university scholarships to 37 labourers who have been actively involved in the construction of resettlement houses for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Nguro Soye village, Bama Local Government Area (LGA). This announcement was made during the governor’s inspection visit to the construction site on Thursday.

During his interaction with the dedicated workers, Governor Zulum discovered that 37 of them possessed senior secondary school certificates. Impressed by their educational background, the governor immediately declared that any worker who successfully passes the tertiary education examination and secures admission into a university will receive full sponsorship for their education.

In his own words, Governor Zulum said, “Let me know how many of you have completed secondary school, and we will sponsor you to pursue undergraduate degree courses at the university.”

Aside from his visit to the construction site, the governor also assessed the damages caused by the Boko Haram insurgents at Umar Ibn Ibrahim College of Education, Science, and Technology (UIICEST) in Bama. Impressed by the potential of the institution, Governor Zulum directed the Commissioner for Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement, Ibrahim Idriss, to conduct an in-depth assessment of the damages incurred by the staff quarters and students’ hostels.

Governor Zulum emphasized that the rehabilitation of these destroyed facilities is of utmost importance, as it will enable students and staff to fully occupy the college, which currently operates on a skeletal basis.

This remarkable commitment by Governor Babagana Zulum demonstrates his dedication to the educational and economic growth of the people of Borno State.
