NUC Approves 14 Programmes at Transport University Daura: A New Era in Education and Development

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has granted its coveted approval for the commencement of fourteen cutting-edge programmes at the prestigious Federal University of Transportation Daura, situated in Katsina State. This groundbreaking announcement was confirmed by the university’s pioneering vice-chancellor, Prof. Umar Adam-Katsayal, during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Katsina on a delightful Saturday.

The NUC’s stamp of endorsement comes as the result of a recent visit from their resource verification team to the university. In a letter dated October 18, 2023, addressed to Prof. Umar Adam-Katsayal and signed by the commission’s acting director of Academic Planning, Abubakar Girei, the approval for the establishment of full-time mode programmes at the university was graciously relayed.

Effectively starting from the 2023/2024 session, the approved programmes that will be offered on the university’s Main Campus are as follows: B.Eng. Civil Engineering, B.Eng. Electrical Electronics Engineering, B.Eng. Mechanical Engineering, B.Eng. Mechatronics Engineering, and B.Eng. Railway Engineering. Additionally, the university will offer B.Eng. Highway Engineering, B.Sc. Aviation Management, B.Sc. Transport Management, B.Sc. Logistics and Supply Chain Management, B.Sc. Maritime Safety and Environmental Administration, and B.Sc. Railway Transport Management. Last but not least, the university will also offer B.Sc. Sea Port and Dry Port Management, B.Sc. Inland Waterways Safety and Environmental Administration, and B.Sc. Maritime Economics.

It is important to note that the approval strictly applies to full-time mode delivery of the programmes. Furthermore, any modification or alteration of the approved titles and nomenclatures will necessitate the commission’s consent and authorization.

This momentous achievement follows the NUC’s resource verification exercise, which took place on October 12, 2023. This thorough evaluation assessed the availability of human and material resources required for the smooth take-off of the university.

Let us not forget that this remarkable institution has been christened the ‘Muhammadu Buhari University of Transportation Daura’ in honor of Nigeria’s visionary leader and head of state, President Muhammadu Buhari.

This momentous milestone signifies a new era in education and development, as the Federal University of Transportation Daura emerges as a beacon of excellence, propelling Nigeria’s transportation sector forward. With these fourteen diverse and dynamic programmes, the university is primed to equip its students with the knowledge, skills and resources needed to revolutionize the field of transportation and shape the future of the nation.
