Portable arrest sparks plea for N7 million bail

A Nigerian media personality, Kolu, has appealed to his colleague, Carter Efe, for a loan of N7 million to facilitate the release of singer Portable from prison. The request was made during a livestream on Twitch, where Kolu explained that his concern for Portable’s welfare stems from the singer’s role in launching his career. According to Kolu, Portable brought him to Lagos and provided him with the necessary exposure to gain fame.

Portable was remanded in prison by the Federal High Court in Ota, Ogun state, on Tuesday, facing allegations of car theft and assault made by his baby mama, Ashabi Simple. Reports also indicate that he was handcuffed and beaten while in police custody. The incident has sparked concern among his associates and fans, with Kolu being the latest to publicly express his support.

Kolu’s plea to Carter Efe highlights the close relationships within Nigeria’s entertainment industry, where collaborations and mentorship play a significant role in shaping careers. Portable, whose music has gained popularity in recent years, has been open about his struggles and rise to fame. His current situation has drawn attention to the challenges faced by artists in the country, including legal issues and personal struggles.

The case against Portable is ongoing, with the court’s decision pending. As the situation unfolds, fans and colleagues alike are awaiting updates on his release. Kolu’s request for financial assistance to secure Portable’s release underscores the importance of support within the entertainment community. The incident serves as a reminder of the complexities and challenges faced by public figures, both in their personal and professional lives.
