The governor of Kebbi State, Nasir Idris, has shown compassion and empathy towards the people of Kanzanna village in Tilli District of Bunza Local Government Area, as he donates a sum of N7 million to alleviate the suffering caused by recent banditry attacks in the area.
Yahaya Sarki, the special adviser to the governor on Media and Publicity, released a statement on Sunday, disclosing the governor’s generous gesture. The governor made the donation while paying a condolence visit to Kanzanna village, where bandits brutally attacked and claimed the lives of three innocent individuals.
Governor Idris reaffirmed the unwavering dedication of his administration to guarantee the safety and security of lives and property in the state. Expressing his profound sorrow over the bandit attacks, he emphasized that ensuring the well-being and protection of the people remains a top priority on the agenda of his government.
He remarked, “We are here to offer our condolences over what happened. We pray to Almighty Allah to forgive all those who lost their lives in the incident and give their families the courage to bear the loss.”
The governor assured the residents of Kanzanna, and the entire Till District, that all necessary measures will be taken to bring the perpetrators of the attack to justice. He also committed to preventing any recurrence of such tragic incidents. To demonstrate his commitment, he accompanied his visit with heads of security agencies in the state, including the Army, Police, Civil Defence, DSS, and vigilante groups.
“We will provide all that is needed by our security agencies, including logistics support, to enable them to carry out their work effectively,” Governor Idris affirmed.
He further assured the community, saying, “Once again, you have my full assurance that adequate security will be provided to your community, and, in addition, the government will provide you with relief assistance.”
During his visit, the chairman of Bunza Local Government Area, Alhaji Umar Muhammad-Gwade, briefed the governor on the tragic incident, confirming the loss of three lives as a result of the bandit attack. He also highlighted the repeated attacks by bandits on Kanzanna village and its neighboring communities.
The district head of Tilli, Muhammad Jabbo, expressed his gratitude to the governor for the condolence visit, while appealing for an increased deployment of security personnel in the area. He lamented the encroachment of bandits from neighboring countries such as Benin and Niger Republic, who perpetrate these attacks.
In another display of benevolence, Governor Idris made a stop at the Primary Healthcare Centre in Gurya Mashekari, Kalgo Local Government, where he met internally displaced persons (IDPs) who had been forced to flee their homes due to banditry attacks. He sympathized with them and donated N2 million to assist them in their time of need.
The governor’s visit was accompanied by the state commissioner of police, CP Chris Aimionowane, the secretary to the state government, Yakubu Bala-Tafida, the head of service, Sufyanu Garba-Bena, heads of security agencies, commissioners, politicians, and other dignitaries.
This act of compassion and support displayed by Governor Nasir Idris towards the victims of banditry attacks will go a long way in providing relief and strengthening the resolve of the affected communities. The people of Kebbi State can find solace in the fact that their governor remains steadfast in his commitment to their safety and well-being.
