Katsina State Government Disburses N640.6 Million Outstanding Scholarship Allowances to Students

In a bid to support students in Katsina State amidst the challenging economic climate, the State Government has taken the commendable step of disbursing over N640.6 million in outstanding scholarship allowances to a staggering number of 47,935 indigenous students. This payment covers the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 academic sessions.

During the event on Monday, Governor Dikko Radda expressed his administration’s unwavering commitment to improving the lives of students. He assured the students of prompt payment of scholarships while studying in tertiary institutions. Recognizing the importance of this support, particularly during a time when the economy is not favorable for parents and students alike, the governor emphasized the need to ensure that students have the necessary resources to excel in their education.

Furthermore, Governor Radda announced his administration’s plans to sponsor exceptional students to study abroad. By providing them with exposure and valuable international experiences, these students will be equipped to become impactful leaders in the future. The governor also highlighted the establishment of three special model schools, aimed at giving bright students in rural areas the same opportunities as their counterparts in urban areas. This initiative is designed to bridge the gap between the education received by children of the elites and that of the less privileged.

“The establishment of these special model schools is intended to provide opportunities to the less privileged, allowing them to rub shoulders with the children of the elites, and in some cases, even surpass them,” Governor Radda expressed.

Dr. Aminu Salisu-Tsauri, the Executive Secretary of the state’s Scholarship Board, revealed that the board plans to propose an upward review of scholarship allowances to align with the current economic realities. Additionally, they intend to introduce attendance registers to instill discipline and punctuality among staff members. A skills-based scholarship program, both for local and foreign studies, will also be introduced, along with step-down bonds to encourage skill development and retention within the state.

“As part of our renewed hope agenda, we will also seek the conversion of the Katsina State Scholarship Board to the Katsina State Scholarship and Loans Trust Fund, in line with the Federal Government’s agenda,” Mr. Salisu-Tsauri further disclosed.

To expand the scholarship opportunities available to students, the board will actively pursue the provision of National and Bursary awards scholarships from the Federal Government to 91 Katsina State students. These proactive measures demonstrate the government’s commitment to ensuring that every deserving student has access to quality education, regardless of their financial background.

This significant disbursement of scholarship allowances and the proposed reforms exemplify the Katsina State Government’s dedication to investing in the education and future of its students. By equipping them with the necessary resources and opportunities, the government is fostering a brighter future for the state.
