Enyimba’s Finidi Reflects on Home Defeat to Wydad in African Football League

Enyimba head coach, Finidi George, expressed his disappointment with his team’s loss to Wydad Athletic Club of Morocco, attributing it to their inability to convert their chances into goals.

In the first leg of the African Football League (AFL) quarter-final tie on Sunday, the Nigerian champions were defeated 1-0 by Adil Ramzi’s side. The only goal of the match came from Yayha Jabrane’s first-half penalty.

Despite the loss, Chijioke Mbaoma, Ekenne Awazie, and Daniel Daga had all missed opportunities to score for Enyimba.

Remaining optimistic, Finidi believes that his team still has a chance to progress to the semi-finals. He emphasized the importance of goal-scoring in football and acknowledged that a different result could have been achieved if Enyimba had converted their chances.

Speaking on Brila FM, Finidi said, “In a couple of days, we will have the return leg. I’m happy that we lost by just 1-0, which gives us another opportunity to go over there and see if we can turn the tables. If we can capitalize on the same opportunities we had here, it can make all the difference in the game.”

Looking ahead to the second leg, Finidi remains optimistic while regretting the loss in the first leg.

The reverse fixture between Enyimba and Wydad will take place this weekend at the Stade Mohamed V in Casablanca.
