The presidential candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has pledged to improve Nigeria for the younger generation. During his presidential rally and governorship campaign flag-off in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, he emphasized his commitment to transforming the education sector. Tinubu assured that Nigerian students would receive quality education and graduate on time. He appealed to the residents of Abia State for their votes in the upcoming 2023 presidential and governorship elections.

In his address, Tinubu urged Uche Oga, the immediate past Minister of State for Mines and Steel, to withdraw all court cases against the party’s governorship candidate, Ikechi Emenike. He stated, “We are politicians, I’m calling on Uche Oga to come home and let us settle the matter in our living room. There is no need to bring a third party who is neutral into a family matter we can resolve ourselves.” He also expressed gratitude to the students present, assuring them that they would not have to spend eight years completing a four-year course again. Tinubu encouraged them to participate in the elections and vote for the APC.

Ikechi Emenike, the APC governorship candidate in Abia State, echoed Tinubu’s sentiments, asserting that the party would secure victories in the presidential, governorship, national, and state assembly elections. Emenike highlighted the underdevelopment that Abia has faced and stressed the need for rescue and development. He promised that issues such as unpaid salaries, pensions, and gratuities would be resolved under an APC-led state government. “Hope is on the way. I want our youths to know that unemployment will be a thing of the past in the coming years,” he stated. Emenike further committed to being a unifying leader, inviting all party members to come together, as their shared goals outweigh their differences.

Hope Uzodinma, the Governor of Imo State, urged party members in Abia to reconcile their differences to ensure electoral success. Kingsley Ononogbu, the state APC Chairman, also called on the people of the South-East to avoid repeating past mistakes by engaging in regional politics. He asserted, “Tinubu possesses the capacity, competence, exposure, experience, and the will to turn things around for Nigeria.” Ononogbu reassured the audience that their votes would support both Tinubu and the governorship candidate, emphasizing that the South-East’s votes in the presidential and governorship elections would be for the APC, while also asserting their right to demand a fair share of the dividends of democracy.
