The Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed the case filed by Mohammed Barde, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Gombe State, against Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and two other parties. The information was conveyed by Ismaila Misilli, Director‑General of Press Affairs at the Government House, in a press statement to our correspondent on Tuesday.
In his statement, Misilli explained that the court rejected Barde’s claims because he lacked legal standing to sue either INEC or Governor Yahaya. Barde had previously accused Yahaya, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, of forgery. The Federal High Court, in its ruling titled “PDP and 2 ORS vs INEC and 2 ORS, suit NO: FHC/ABJ/CS/1301/2022,” determined that it had no jurisdiction over the matter. The court held that neither the PDP nor Barde, the second defendant, could bring a lawsuit against the governor or INEC, as they were not aspirants in the APC primaries that produced Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s nomination. Consequently, the case was struck out.
