Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, has pledged to replicate the successes he achieved as governor of Kano if elected president. He made this promise during the second presidential town hall meeting organized by the Department of Political Science at the University of Abuja on Monday. Kwankwaso expressed concern over the severe crisis facing Nigeria’s education sector, spanning from primary to tertiary levels. He criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for their failures to address these issues.
Kwankwaso emphasized that Nigerians now have an alternative to the shortcomings of the APC and PDP. He highlighted the critical importance of education and assured that his administration would prioritize it. “In our manifesto, we stated that once you pass the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination, it will remain valid for four years. You won’t need to retake the exam, as we believe the government must ensure that children from less privileged backgrounds have equal opportunities to attend university,” he explained. He reiterated his commitment to education, stating, “Our belief is education, education, and education.”
Additionally, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Prof. Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, urged all presidential candidates to engage with Nigerians and explain their motivations for seeking leadership. He lamented that despite Nigeria’s wealth of mineral resources, the country continues to struggle with challenges such as inconsistent electricity supply, a deficient healthcare system, and poorly maintained roads.
