Steer Clear of Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi: CDS Warns Perpetrators of Election Violence

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Major General Christopher Musa, has issued a stern warning to individuals or groups planning to disrupt the upcoming governorship polls in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi states.

Major General Musa conveyed this warning during a press conference held after the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) meeting in Abuja.

Residents of Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi can rest assured, as Major General Musa assured them that they have nothing to fear. He further pledged that the Armed Forces would provide unwavering support to the police in order to ensure free and fair elections in these states.

“The Armed Forces, alongside the police and other security agencies, will be present on the ground. It is our collective desire to eradicate election violence, and we are determined to make a difference,” said Major General Musa.

He continued, “Our aspiration is for every Nigerian to be proud of their nationality and for elections to be transparent and fair. We want every election winner to celebrate their victory without any form of intimidation.”

Additionally, Major General Musa emphasized that a warning had already been issued to security personnel who will be deployed during the elections, stating that anyone who misbehaves will face the appropriate consequences.

In order to dispel any concerns, the army chief underlined that the presence of security agencies in these three states should only be a matter of concern for those with intentions to disrupt the election process.

It is crucial that all Nigerians come together to support peaceful, credible, and violence-free elections. By adhering to this, we can foster a democratic society where every vote counts and the will of the people prevails.
