Timipre Sylva, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Bayelsa State governorship election, expressed his satisfaction with the judiciary’s recent decision to reinstate him. The Court of Appeal reversed the earlier verdict by the High Court in Abuja, which had declared Sylva ineligible due to his previous tenure as governor. Sylva, after meeting with party officials, stated that the judiciary had vindicated itself and made it clear that the APC is poised to win the November 11 governorship election.
Sylva emphasized the reason behind the opposition’s move to stop his participation in the election. He claimed that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had gone to court in an attempt to ensure that he would not appear on the ballot. However, the court declared that the individual who filed the suit had no standing, further highlighting the judiciary’s integrity in the matter.
Sylva added that the lawsuit, though supposedly initiated by an APC member, was orchestrated by the PDP. This revelation demonstrates the extent to which the opposition party is willing to go to hinder Sylva’s campaign.
With the recent turn of events in his favor, Sylva is optimistic about the upcoming election. He believes that the APC’s victory is imminent, and the judiciary’s intervention has boosted his confidence.
The Bayelsa gubernatorial election is poised to be a pivotal moment for the state, and Sylva’s reinstatement as the APC candidate has set the stage for a highly competitive race.
