Supporters of Governor Sim Fubara have taken a strong stand by occupying the Rivers State Government House. Their impassioned demands echo throughout the state, calling on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory to allow Governor Fubara to fulfill his duties as the state’s chief executive.
The longstanding alliance between Governor Nyesom Wike and his chosen successor for the 2023 governorship election, Sim Fubara, has crumbled. The rift between them, which became public over the weekend, has now evolved into a secessionist struggle for freedom and self-determination for Fubara and his administration.
In a display of political tension, on Sunday, some members of the Rivers State House of Assembly initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara. However, Edison Ehie, Leader of the State House of Assembly, firmly rejected this motion, stating that the governor had not committed any impeachable offense. In response, Ehie was removed from his position as the majority leader and later elected as the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The protesters, voicing their concerns to journalists, expressed bewilderment as to why the former governor is allegedly attempting to maintain control over the state he governed for eight years.
The ongoing clash between Wike and Fubara has attracted significant attention, prompting a video to circulate, capturing the protests and providing an insight into the tense atmosphere.
