Zamfara Government Takes Firm Action, Suspends Licenses of Private Schools

In a bid to ensure quality education and improve the overall learning environment, the Zamfara State government has made the decision to suspend the operational licenses of all private schools in the state. This announcement was made by the commissioner of education, Malam Wadatau Madawaki, during a press briefing held at his office in Gusau, the state capital.

The need for this suspension arose from a concerning observation that out of the 761 private schools identified in the state, only 450 possessed valid licenses. The remaining schools either had expired licenses, were operating beyond the capacity permitted by their licenses, or were situated in unfavorable environments. Such conditions are not conducive for effective learning, and therefore, action had to be taken.

Highlighting the gravity of the situation, Madawaki revealed that more than 300 private schools in the state were operating without licenses altogether. This significant number of unlicensed schools poses a substantial risk to the education sector and the well-being of students.

In response to this issue, the Zamfara State government has formulated a comprehensive strategy to regulate the activities of private schools and improve the standard of education provided. This strategy aims to ensure that every child in the state has access to quality education within a safe and conducive environment.

The government has also expressed its commitment to revamping and revitalizing the education sector in Zamfara State. Various intervention methods will be implemented to reposition the entire system for optimal output.
