Experts Advocate for Supportive Environment to Drive Technological Advancement in Akwa Ibom

The tech community in Akwa Ibom State is calling on the state government to create an enabling environment, including reliable power supply and internet connectivity, to propel their efforts in positioning the state as Africa’s next tech hub. This appeal was made by the President of the Ibom Innovation Network, Hanson Johnson, during the Akwa Ibom Tech Week 2023, with the theme: “Africa’s New Tech Destination,” held in Ikot Ekpene.

In his welcome address, Johnson emphasized the importance of investing in the tech ecosystem in the state, urging the government and the people to support and encourage innovators to keep up with the evolving global technological trends. He stated, “We appeal to the Akwa Ibom Government to join us on this journey, investing in our vision to become Africa’s new tech destination. The peaceful environment we enjoy is a testament to our government’s commitment to ensuring a secure and conducive atmosphere for tech enthusiasts. The affordable cost of living here presents a unique advantage for building and growing tech startups.”

Adding to the discourse, Mr Raphael Edem, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Brand Management and Marketing, highlighted the notable achievements of the tech hubs in the state. Speaking on the topic “Branding and Marketing Akwa Ibom State as an Emerging Tech Destination in Africa,” Edem urged the tech community to foster continuous dialogue and collaboration with the state government to drive the development of the sector.
