In a remarkable turn of events, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been sworn in as the senator representing the esteemed Kogi Central senatorial district. This momentous occasion makes Natasha not only the first female Senator from Kogi State but also the fourth female Senator in the 10th Upper Legislative Chamber.
The ceremony took place on Thursday, as Senate President Godswill Akpabio, in a decisive move, directed the clerk of the senate to administer the oath to Natasha on the illustrious floor of the upper legislative chamber.
This esteemed recognition and responsibility were bestowed upon Natasha after she was duly presented with the Certificate of Return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the elected Senator for Kogi Central—a testament to her unwavering dedication and the trust reposed in her by the electorate.
Akin to a phoenix rising from the ashes, Natasha’s journey to this pinnacle of achievement was not without its share of challenges. The Court of Appeal, on Tuesday, resolutely affirmed her victory in the Kogi central senatorial district election, dispelling any lingering doubts about her legitimacy and vindicating her supporters.
Prior to this, the election petition tribunal, on September 6, had unequivocally validated Natasha as the duly elected Senator. It rendered Ohere’s victory null and void, citing inflated polling results in favor of Ohere in certain units and a deliberate undercounting against Akpoti-Uduaghan.
As Natasha Akpoti takes on her new role, she brings with her a wealth of experiences and a fresh perspective. The Kogi Central senatorial district can expect a senator who is passionate about serving the people, addressing their concerns, and championing their rights. Natasha’s swearing-in is a cause for celebration not only for Kogi State but also for the women of Nigeria. She stands as a beacon of hope and an inspiration for future generations of women leaders.
