The APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, has responded to the resignation claim made by Hajiya Naja’atu Mohammed, who previously served as the Director of Civil Society Organisations for the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council. The Tinubu Media Office stated that Mohammed was actually dismissed due to incompetence and for allegedly acting as a mole within the campaign council. Her resignation announcement, made on Saturday, cited a lack of ideological differences among the nation’s political parties. However, less than 24 hours later, she publicly endorsed the presidential candidacy of Atiku Abubakar from the Peoples Democratic Party.

In a statement issued by the Tinubu Media Office and signed by Mahmud Jega, the Asiwaju/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council expressed amusement at Mohammed’s hasty resignation. The council clarified that she was relieved of her duties after it was revealed that she was working for “desperate opponents.” The statement noted, “The Asiwaju/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council received with amusement the hasty ‘resignation’ of Hajiya Naja’atu Mohammed from her position as Director of Civil Society Organisations just before she was sacked for incompetence, quarrelsomeness, and after being uncovered to be a mole planted in our winning campaign in order to leak sensitive information to our desperate opponents.”

The statement further emphasized that while Mohammed attempted to deceive the public by claiming she resigned, her termination letter had just arrived at her desk. It criticized her subsequent statements as desperate and unfounded, asserting that they demonstrated her unfitness for the role. The council also pointed out that despite her lack of medical credentials, she issued a pseudo-medical report on Bola Tinubu after a brief meeting in London, suggesting that even a group of traditional healers would dismiss her for quackery.

Despite being the clear front-runner in the 2023 presidential race, Tinubu has maintained an intense campaign schedule, visiting numerous parts of the country and engaging in a variety of rallies, town hall meetings, and discussions with professional, community, business, and religious groups. The media arm of the APC Presidential Campaign Council urged the public to remain cautious of Mohammed, questioning her integrity after she claimed that when she asked Tinubu about his plans for the North, he responded that he had none. This assertion was described as “strange” and raised doubts about the credibility of her narrative.
