In a heart-wrenching turn of events, Senegal mourns the loss of Pape Ibrahim Gueye, fondly known as Papito Kara on various social media platforms. This charismatic individual, revered for his amusing press reviews, tragically lost his life while embarking on a perilous voyage to the Spanish Canary Islands. This unfortunate incident comes amidst a significant surge in the number of migrants leaving the country this year. Papito Kara, along with five other individuals, succumbed to freezing temperatures during their clandestine departure from Kayar on October 24. The 31-year-old, who had worked in the media industry, including at Leral TV, held a sizable following of 147,000 subscribers on Facebook, who eagerly awaited his satirical press critiques. These reviews often served as a voice of discontent towards the current regime. The details surrounding this distressing incident can be found in the original article written in French.
