Tottenham have made their first signing of the January transfer window, bringing in Netherlands winger Arnaut Danjuma on loan from Villarreal for the remainder of the season. The move comes after the 25-year-old appeared poised to join Premier League strugglers Everton. Danjuma’s addition provides Antonio Conte with another attacking option as he aims to propel fifth-placed Tottenham back into the Premier League’s top four following a series of recent struggles.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Tottenham announced, “We are delighted to announce the signing of Arnaut Danjuma on loan from Villarreal until the end of the 2022/23 season, subject to international clearance.” The club has been facing challenges in their forward line, as aside from Harry Kane, other attackers such as Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski, and Richarlison have encountered injury issues at various points.

Danjuma, who was born in Nigeria, could make his debut for Tottenham in Saturday’s FA Cup fourth-round match against second-tier Preston. He first experienced the Premier League when he joined Bournemouth in 2019, where he spent two years and scored 17 goals in 52 appearances. In 2021, he transferred to La Liga side Villarreal, where he played a pivotal role in their journey to the Champions League semi-finals during his first season, netting six goals in 11 appearances in the competition. Last season, he scored 10 times in 23 La Liga matches and has added six goals in 17 games across all competitions this term.
