The Continental Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Johnson Odesola, expressed his deep sorrow over the passing of Prof. Folagbade Aboaba. In a statement personally signed by Odesola, who oversees the South-West, Nigeria, and the Middle East regions of the church, he described Aboaba, a member of the RCCG Board of Trustees, as a remarkable individual with a valuable personality. Aboaba passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2023, after a brief illness. Although he was 90 years old, his death came as a shock to many.
Odesola’s statement, titled “Rest on Elder (Prof.) Fola Aboaba,” conveyed gratitude for the 90 years of Aboaba’s life. He noted, “Your life and works to God and humanity have become an image of dignity and worth emulating for all of us, not just in the RCCG but also around the world. Though your translation to glory saddens our hearts, we are deeply grateful to God for the eternal impact you have made.” He thanked Aboaba for his sacrifices, care, concern, and love for the body of Christ, the Redeemed Christian Church of God, and for Odesola’s family. He recalled their collaboration in various church committees, highlighting Aboaba’s numerous admirable qualities.
Odesola expressed his heartbreak over Aboaba’s absence, acknowledging that he had fought the good fight as a gallant soldier of the Lord until his last breath. He assured that the memories of Aboaba would be cherished forever, stating, “Rest on Prof. till we meet to part no more.”
Prof. Folagbade Aboaba was an Emeritus Professor of Agricultural Engineering at the University of Ibadan and served as the pioneering Dean of the Faculty of Technology from 1976 to 1982. He was passionate about advancing agricultural engineering and mechanization in Nigeria. Aboaba held several notable positions, including Executive Secretary of the Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities from 1992 to 1998, founding Pro-Chancellor of Redeemer’s University from 2005 to 2013, and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal Institute of Industrial Research Oshodi, Lagos, from 1976 to 1979. He was also a member of the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers and the Institution of Agricultural Engineers in the UK.
