The youth wing of Afenifere, the apex socio-political organization for the Yoruba people, alongside the Coalition for a Better and Brighter Nigeria (CBBN), has intensified grassroots mobilization efforts to rally support for the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi. Eniola Ojajuni, the National President of the Afenifere National Youth Council, announced that their goal is to generate five million votes for Obi. He made this statement to journalists in Jos on Wednesday, during a two-day training session organized for various support groups of the Labour Party candidate at the Ebomi Towers in Plateau State’s capital.
Ojajuni emphasized the partnership between Afenifere and CBBN, focusing on strategies for the upcoming election to ensure Obi’s victory. He stated, “Our target in Afenifere is to generate five million votes for him. We are doing this through voter education and outreach to the people, highlighting the need for a new Nigeria that everyone is clamoring for.”
Isa El-Buba, the convener of the coalition group, pointed out that Nigeria has suffered for too long due to poor leadership. He explained that the training, which included participants from various states, aims to help the Labour Party connect with every electorate across the nation in the lead-up to the elections. El-Buba described the 2023 elections as the last opportunity to save the country and restore it to a path of progress and development. He asserted that Obi is the only presidential candidate capable of redeeming Nigeria and urged the public to vote for him to achieve his objectives.
El-Buba remarked, “Nigeria cannot afford to be under Tinubu or Atiku’s presidency because, for the past 62 years, we have not enjoyed good leadership. Nigeria is ready to put a stop to that.” He expressed confidence that no amount of money from Tinubu or Atiku would sway voters this time, as Nigerians have become wiser. He declared that the support for Obi would surpass the opposition, stating, “It’s time to save Nigeria; it’s a fight to finish. We must be brave to confront the challenges ahead.” He charged the participants with the responsibility of achieving a target of 40 million votes to propel the Labour Party’s presidential candidate to victory in the upcoming election.
