The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has taken a proactive stance ahead of the gubernatorial elections in Kogi, Imo, and Bayelsa states. The anti-graft agency has strategically deployed operatives in these states to ensure the integrity of the electoral process.

Dele Oyewale, the spokesman for the EFCC, addressed the press in Abuja on Friday, revealing the agency’s intent to curb illegal practices such as vote buying and other forms of electoral malpractice during Saturday’s election. This move aligns with the commission’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and promoting transparency in the electoral system.

Oyewale emphasized that the deployment of EFCC operatives is aimed at preventing any attempts to manipulate the electoral processes, as stipulated by the Electoral Act. He stated, “In its efforts to curb electoral fraud and associated financial crimes, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has deployed its officers to Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo States, where governorship elections are scheduled for Saturday, November 11, 2023.”

The EFCC’s vigilant monitoring seeks to address any acts of voter inducement, including vote buying, vote selling, and other manipulative practices that violate the Electoral Act. This bold step underscores the agency’s commitment to ensuring free, fair, and credible elections in the aforementioned states.
