The leaders of the Supreme Council for Shariah in Nigeria are advocating for a collaborative approach in combating the insurgency in the country.

During a courtesy visit to the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja, the team leader, Dr. Bashir Aliyu Umar, emphasized the importance of an interactive strategy to address the insecurity plaguing Nigeria.

Dr. Umar stated, “the visit aims to gather first-hand information on the overall initiatives of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) in tackling insecurity in the country.”

He highlighted that the members of the council are influential Islamic leaders with direct access and influence on ordinary Nigerians, actively engaging with the populace on a daily basis.

The professor stressed the need for an interactive and collective approach towards combating the insecurity menace in Nigeria, while also emphasising the essential link between peace and justice.

Furthermore, the speakers at the event commended the CDS for his exceptional leadership qualities and impartiality in the execution of his duties. They advocated for teamwork and the utilization of modern technology in the fight against insecurity.

In response, General Musa welcomed the delegation and expressed his confidence in ending insecurity in the country. He acknowledged the seriousness of the council’s visit and their openness to seeking the truth as a reflection of their commitment to addressing the scourge of insecurity.

While lauding the professionalism of the Nigerian Armed Forces during operations, General Musa acknowledged the presence of a few unscrupulous elements among the troops, assuring that measures will be taken to weed them out.

He revealed that during his tenure as the theatre Commander in the North East, around 75,000 members of the Boko Haram and their families surrendered, and this number has now increased to over 100,000.

General Musa affirmed his willingness to collaborate with religious organisations in addressing security challenges and pledged to enhance military operations by encouraging innovative approaches to curbing insecurity in Nigeria.
