Afenifere Leader Accuses ‘Labour Party Elements’ of Spreading Misinformation

Pa Reuben Fasoranti, the leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has condemned the dissemination of false information by certain members of the group and accused them of being influenced by elements from the Labour Party.

Fasoranti expressed his displeasure with Ayo Adebanjo, the acting leader, for disputing the Supreme Court’s ruling on President Bola Tinubu’s victory and disassociating Afenifere from the communiqué signed by Adebanjo and the Secretary-General, Sola Ebiseni. He affirmed that the mainstream Yoruba organisation had sent their congratulations to Tinubu on his electoral and legal victories.

At the end of Afenifere’s regular monthly meeting in Isanya-Ogbo, Ogun State, a communiqué was issued, claiming that the Supreme Court’s verdict had endorsed the “irregularities” of the 2023 polls.

Fasoranti, in a statement, emphasized that certain individuals with hidden agendas were attempting to tarnish the reputation of the prominent organization, describing it as a misguided venture.

He reiterated his position as the leader of Afenifere, with Adebanjo serving as the acting leader, and denounced the misleading communiqué released in the name of Afenifere. Fasoranti clarified that the organization’s leadership did not endorse or authorize the press release and warned against the dissemination of seditious content.

Furthermore, he stated, “We are unequivocal in reiterating that Pa Ayo Adebanjo is the Acting Leader, who, in the natural and traditional order of Afenifere, is expected to defer to his leader, who appointed him, Chief Reuben Fasoranti, OFR, without reservations. To do otherwise is to tread such an ignoble path in national discourse, as this unfortunate release reveals.”
