In a recent episode of his podcast, The Obi One, Chelsea and Super Eagles legend, John Mikel Obi, confidently stated that he remains “the most successful and decorated football player in Nigeria.”
Emphasizing the significance of his achievements, Mikel pointed out that unlike Victor Osimhen, a promising young talent in Nigerian football, he was never lauded as the world’s number 8 by the Ballon d’Or.
During the podcast, Mikel lauded Osimhen for setting a new standard for Nigerian footballers, acknowledging the accolade of being ranked number 8 in the world by Ballon d’Or as an extraordinary accomplishment. He congratulated Osimhen on this remarkable feat and expressed admiration for his outstanding season, acknowledging that he himself had never reached such heights. Mikel said, “You’ve raised the bar so high.”
In response, Osimhen expressed his deep respect for Mikel, describing him as “more than a legend” to many Nigerian footballers. Osimhen also highlighted how Mikel’s impact transcended the pitch, serving as an inspiration both on and off the field.
Regarding his success with the Ballon d’Or, Osimhen attributed his achievement to his unwavering dedication to his craft, stating, “I just kept on doing my job, doing what I love so much and God just crowned my efforts.”
