The Kano State Government has undertaken the commendable initiative of distributing essential food items to over 4,400 individuals with special needs. This intervention aims to alleviate the adverse impact of the recent fuel subsidy removal in the state. The distribution ceremony was officiated by the state governor, Abba Yusuf, at the KASCO office in Kano.
The governor, represented by his deputy, Aminu Gwarzo, expressed the government’s profound regard for persons with special needs, highlighting the additional support earmarked for this segment of the population.
Emphasizing the reach of the initiative, the governor elucidated that 100 individuals with special needs from each of the 44 local government areas of the state will benefit from the palliatives. The beneficiaries encompass those with visual and hearing impairments, spinal cord disorders, leprosy, physical disabilities, and albinism. Each of them will receive a 10kg bag of rice and millet across the 44 local government areas.
Mr Yusuf announced, “Today we are flagging off the second phase of distribution of palliatives to the good people of Kano state. The first phase consisted of the general public, with each ward in the state receiving 400 bags of rice and 400 bags of maize. This second phase involves the distribution of palliatives to people with special needs. Among the beneficiaries are the widows and orphans of 19 military and paramilitary personnel in the state.”
In his opening speech, Abdullahi Bichi, the chairman of the State Compliance Committee on Distribution of Palliatives and also the Secretary to the State Government, underscored the imperative for representatives of the beneficiaries to adhere strictly to the stipulated guidelines. His directive reiterated the importance of ensuring that each beneficiary receives both a bag of maize and a bag of rice, without any deviation from this allocation.
Representatives of the beneficiary groups, expressing gratitude on behalf of their constituents, conveyed their appreciation to the state government for recognizing their plight and extending this special assistance.
Furthermore, the government initiated the distribution of palliatives to the widows and orphans of military and paramilitary personnel in the state. This comprehensive approach underscores the commitment of the Kano State Government to embracing and supporting vulnerable segments of the population.
