The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, has expressed concern over the economic situation inherited by the current administration, attributing it to the financial state left by the former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. 3. Arrest Made in Alleged Infanticide Case in Benue State
A woman from Mbadyur council ward in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State, Sughshater Ushahemba, has been apprehended for the alleged poisoning of her 11-month-old baby. The police are conducting an investigation into the tragic incident.
4. Federal Government Urges Labour Unions to Halt Planned Strike
The Federal Government has called on the organised Labour to suspend the impending strike scheduled to commence today. Referring to a restraining order issued by the National Industrial Court, Abuja, on Friday, the government appealed to the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress to reconsider their decision.
5. Douye Diri Declared Winner of Bayelsa State Governorship Election
The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced the victory of the incumbent governor, Douye Diri, in the Bayelsa State governorship election held on Saturday. Diri secured the win over Chief Timipre Sylva, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, and sixteen other contenders.
6. President Tinubu Advocates for Welfare Improvement of Judicial Officers
President Bola Tinubu has instructed the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) to devise strategies for enhancing the welfare of the nation’s judicial officers. Tinubu reassured the Judiciary of the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing the challenges faced by the judicial arm and suggested the appointment of appellate court justices from outside the bench.
7. Saudi Arabia Cancels Visas of Passengers Airlifted by Air Peace
Saudi Arabian authorities have revoked the visas of 264 passengers transported by Air Peace. Upon arrival in Jeddah from Kano, the travellers were informed of the cancellation and instructed by the authorities to return to Nigeria. Subsequently, only 87 of the 264 passengers were permitted to continue their journey following the intervention of Nigerian embassy officials.
8. Nasarawa State Governor Urges Restraint ahead of Court of Appeal Hearing
Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has called for calm among his supporters and the state’s populace in anticipation of the Court of Appeal hearing scheduled for Wednesday. He has lodged an appeal challenging the ruling of the governorship election petition tribunal, which favoured David Ombugadu of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
9. Imo Governorship Candidates Demand Cancellation of Election
The governorship candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and Labour Party (LP) Senator Athan Achonu, have jointly urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to nullify the governorship election held in Imo State last Saturday. 10. Street Sweeper Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Defilement
Justice Abiola Sholadoye of the Ikeja Special Offences and Domestic Violence Court has arraigned and sentenced a 32-year-old street sweeper, Damilola Omojolowo, to life imprisonment for the defilement of a 14-year-old girl. Omojolowo was found guilty of one count of defiling the minor, whom he falsely claimed to be his girlfriend.
