Ben Murray Bruce Criticizes NLC and TUC for Declaring Indefinite Strike

Former federal lawmaker, Ben Murray Bruce, has voiced his opposition to the indefinite strike declared by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

The NLC and TUC issued a directive to all their affiliates to commence a nationwide withdrawal of services from Tuesday in response to an incident where NLC president, Joe Ajaero, was assaulted by police personnel in Imo State.

However, Ben Bruce disapproved of the decision, cautioning that it was not in the best interest of the nation.

He expressed, “A nationwide strike, prompted by an isolated incident in just one state that is already being addressed, is not in Nigeria’s interest. It may serve personal interests, but it will harm the national interest. Power must not be wielded to settle scores; rather, it should be used to advance our economic and democratic progress.”

Adding, “I urge the Nigerian Labour Congress to act rationally, prioritizing the national interest and fostering peace.”
