A fire incident has devastated a building at the well-known Balogun Market in the Lagos Island area of Lagos State. The blaze erupted on Thursday in one of the market’s prominent structures. As of the latest updates, the cause of the fire remains unknown, and it has begun to spread to adjacent apartments.

In response to the emergency, the Lagos State Emergency Agency and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services acted swiftly after receiving distress calls regarding the incident. Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the agency, provided a statement titled “Situation report on the fire outbreak at Broad Street, Lagos Island.” In the statement, he confirmed that the agency responded to reports of a fire affecting several shops on the ground floor of a three-storey building. He also noted that, fortunately, no casualties have been reported.

The agency’s response team is currently on-site, working in conjunction with two Lagos State fire service trucks, two LRU fire trucks, and the police to combat the blaze. This incident occurs just three months after another fire at the same Balogun Market, which resulted in the loss of goods valued at millions.
