Newly promoted Doma United striker Charles Chibuike made an impressive debut by scoring on match-day one of the NPFL. In an interview with Chima Azubuike, he discusses his striking resemblance to Napoli star Victor Osimhen, his football career, family, and more.
Chibuike Charles Samson hails from Enugu State but was born and raised in Minna, Niger State. At just 19 years old, he has already pursued a National Diploma in Social Development at Kaduna Polytechnic, although he could not complete his Higher National Diploma program. While he played football during his school years, he initially prioritized education over sports. However, he later realized he could balance both and decided to take football seriously.
Reflecting on his debut for Doma United, Chibuike expressed his happiness and privilege to be part of the team. He views this achievement as a starting point to work harder rather than a reason to relax. He began his football journey in Pakungo, Minna, at the age of three. Despite his mother’s concerns about his safety and her attempts to discourage him, he persevered. Chibuike initially played barefoot and faced numerous challenges, but a visit to Kaduna changed his trajectory. A mentor encouraged him to join Dosa Academy, where he gained confidence and played for various teams across Nigeria.
Chibuike’s journey included stints in Ibadan, where he faced setbacks despite scoring four goals on his first day. After returning to Lagos, he played amateur football and met a football agent known as Chop Money, who helped him join Depros FC. His career progressed as he played for Abia Comets and Abia Warriors, where he made a significant impact by scoring twice in a crucial match. Eventually, he joined MFM in Lagos, where fans often mistook him for Osimhen due to their resemblance. Although he faced challenges during his second season, he remained determined to succeed.
When asked about his decision to join Doma United FC, Chibuike stated that he believes in the club’s potential as a newly promoted team and has no regrets about his choice. His objectives for the season include giving his best and scoring as many goals as possible, setting a personal target of at least four goals.
Chibuike’s resemblance to Osimhen has garnered attention, with many people asking if he is related to the Napoli star. While he finds it amusing, he has also experienced some embarrassing moments due to these comparisons. Despite not having watched Osimhen play extensively, he admires his skills and aspires to emulate his success on the field.
The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) is challenging, as players are expected to perform at their best. Chibuike feels the weight of this expectation and is committed to not disappointing his fans. He expressed disappointment over Nigeria’s failure to qualify for CHAN, emphasizing his desire to represent his country and contribute to its success.
If he were not a football player, Chibuike would pursue a career in dance, particularly enjoying leg work. He often dances after scoring
