Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has vehemently denied allegations circulating in certain sections of the media that judges received a $5 million bribe to nullify his election. This denial was conveyed in a statement by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, issued on Friday in Jos.
Describing the allegations as baseless, Governor Mutfwang emphasized that the intention behind such claims was to sow seeds of discord between himself and the esteemed jurists. “I strongly condemn the baseless and defamatory allegations being circulated by certain individuals, accusing judges of receiving a $5 million bribe for the nullification of my election,” he stated.
“This is a deliberate action of my detractors aimed at sowing seeds of discord between myself, the esteemed judges and other constituted authorities,” the governor added.
Furthermore, he asserted, “I wish to distance myself from this false narrative; it is a mere fabrication crafted by individuals who are being manipulated as pawns by the opposition party in Plateau. This latest move is an attempt to tarnish the image of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led government in Plateau and such malicious actions will not deter my commitment and confidence in the Judiciary.”
Governor Mutfwang also called upon security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter, with the aim of identifying and apprehending those responsible for the publication.
This denial comes amidst a fervent atmosphere in Plateau State, where the political landscape is abuzz with speculation and tension. However, Governor Mutfwang’s unwavering stance seeks to draw attention to the need for transparency and justice in the face of such serious allegations.
The essence of integrity and trust in the judiciary and the democratic process is at the crux of this denial, casting a spotlight on the pivotal role of the judiciary in upholding the sanctity of the electoral process. Governor Mutfwang’s resolute stance serves as a reminder of the enduring commitment to the principles that underpin the democratic fabric of Plateau State.
The veracity of these allegations remains to be determined, but Governor Mutfwang’s unequivocal disavowal sets the stage for a rigorous inquiry into this contentious matter. It is a clarion call for ethical conduct and accountability, resonating beyond the borders of Plateau State and appealing to the collective conscience that underpins the justice system.
