The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has taken a significant stride in bolstering security with the inauguration of a Special Bodyguard/VIP Protection Unit. The corps, under the leadership of Commandant General Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has imparted rigorous proficiency training to over 501 personnel drawn from state commands across the country and other formations, underscoring their commitment to professionalism and excellence.

Emphasizing the paramount importance of the newly established unit, ACG Augustine Obiekwe, representing the Commandant General at the passing-out ceremony, highlighted the pivotal role of the members in safeguarding individuals under elevated security risks owing to their status, prominence, and influence. He stressed the imperative of upholding privacy and ensuring the safety of VIPs, allowing them to fulfil their duties without compromising their security.

Addressing the graduants, ACG David Abi, in charge of Training and Manpower Development, urged them to conscientiously apply the knowledge and expertise garnered during the training. He accentuated the non-negotiable standards expected of the corps, emphasizing the need for unwavering dedication to their mandate.

Expressing gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for entrusting the NSCDC with the crucial responsibility of VIP protection, Abi lauded the foresight of the Commandant General in establishing the unit and successfully initiating the training of the inaugural batch. It is a testament to the President’s vision of repositioning the Corps for optimal service delivery under the guidance of the innovative and proactive leadership.

“Realizing the gravity of this responsibility, the Commandant General expeditiously sanctioned the establishment of a Special Bodyguard/VIP Protection Unit for comprehensive coordination, command, and control. The rigorous training of selected personnel aligns with global best practices, ensuring seamless service delivery,” Abi affirmed.

Furthermore, the appointment of Assistant Commandant of the Corps, ACC Donald Anyor, underpins the strategic contributions made as Head of the Unit, substantiating the significance of the unit in enhancing the NSCDC’s operational capabilities.

As the NSCDC continues to fortify its operational capacity, the establishment of the Special Bodyguard/VIP Protection Unit stands as a testament to its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation and its distinguished individuals.
