The Police Service Commission (PSC) has initiated a management retreat aimed at enhancing the capacity of police officers to elevate service delivery standards in the country.

Speaking on the initiative, Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations, emphasized that the 4-day Management Retreat taking place in Benin, Edo State, has received support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

“The primary objective of this initiative is to formulate an action plan that will aid the Commission in its oversight role concerning the ongoing Police Reform Programme,” Ani stated.

Furthermore, the Commission acknowledges the necessity of undertaking internal reforms to effectively spearhead the transformation of the Police and facilitate efficient service delivery.

“The retreat will convene the entire Management Team of the Commission, including Directors and Heads of Departments, alongside select senior Police Officers. Additionally, stakeholders such as the Ministry of Police Affairs, Human Rights Commission, Civil Society Organisations, the United Nations delegation, and the Association of Retired Police Officers will participate. Others in attendance will be UN Women, RULAC, Academics, and the End SARS group,” Ani elaborated.

Dr. Solomon Arase, the Chairman of the PSC, expressed the Commission’s commitment to restructuring its internal framework to empower the Police in fulfilling its pivotal role in the nation’s internal security.

Arase affirmed, “We will critically review the Commission’s achievements, challenges, and setbacks. With the invaluable input of our distinguished participants, we will develop a comprehensive framework to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of police oversight.”

Furthermore, Arase assured that the Commission will continually formulate policies that will advance the overall welfare of the Nigeria Police Force, and collaborate with relevant stakeholders and non-state actors to ensure optimal service delivery.
