The Deji of Akureland, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, has voiced his concerns regarding the poor condition of public schools throughout the country. He emphasized that alumni associations are not doing enough to support the government in enhancing the infrastructure of their former schools. The monarch highlighted the importance of former students contributing to the development of education by giving back to their alma mater.

Oba Aladelusi made these remarks while hosting students and members of the Oyemekun Grammar School Old Students Association at his palace. This visit was part of the celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of the school’s establishment. During the event, he expressed his pride in being an alumnus of Oyemekun, stating, “Today is a great day the Lord has made, and we are very glad and rejoicing in it. Oyemekun has been in existence for the past 70 years; I am a product of that school, which has helped me a lot. It is time to give back to my alma mater.”

He further asserted the necessity of supporting the school, noting that the government cannot shoulder this responsibility alone. He encouraged former students to remain engaged with their school after graduation, stating, “There is nothing too much to give back to one’s alma mater.” Additionally, the National President of the association, Dr. Niyi Ijogun, announced that projects worth over N56 million were scheduled to be inaugurated during the anniversary celebrations.
