Nigeria’s Falconets Soar Past Tanzania, Secure Fourth Round Berth in U-20 WWCQ

Nigeria’s under-20 women’s national team, the Falconets, displayed an exceptional performance as they secured a spot in the fourth round of the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers by defeating Tanzania 2-1 in a thrilling encounter in Abuja on Sunday.

Under the leadership of Chris Danjuma, the team triumphed with a 3-2 aggregate score, having battled to a 1-1 draw in the first leg just a week prior. The atmosphere was charged with excitement as Janet Aikekoromowei scored the opening goal in the 15th minute, igniting the spirits of the fans, courtesy of a brilliant assist from Esther Ajakaye.

However, the visitors retaliated, leveling the score through Jamila Rajani Mnunduka from a goal-mouth scramble just five minutes later. The game reached a crescendo when Comfort Folorunso netted the winning goal for the Falconets in the 60th minute, capitalizing on a precise setup by Olushola Shobowale.

With this victory, Nigeria now prepares to face Burundi in the upcoming fourth round, knowing that the overall winners will secure a coveted place at the 2024 Women’s World Cup.
