Efforts are underway to track down and neutralise the perpetrators who ambushed the convoy of Yobe State Governor along the Maiduguri-Damaturu road, the Defence Headquarters has disclosed.

Although Governor Mai Mala Buni was not present during the attack, the Secretary to the Yobe Government and other high-ranking officials managed to escape unharmed.

According to Defence spokesman, Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, the 29 Task Force Brigade successfully repelled the attack, which occurred approximately six kilometres from Benisheikh. He further announced that ongoing operations, led by the brigade commander and additional troops, are focused on locating and eliminating the terrorists responsible for the ambush.

The casualty toll from the convoy attack includes one deceased police officer and five wounded personnel, comprising military, police, and intelligence escorts. The wounded individuals are reportedly in stable condition at the hospital.

The Defence Headquarters stressed that the ongoing operations aim to thwart any future threats targeting government officials in Yobe State.
