Destiny Boy death probe begins with one arrest

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested one person in connection with the death of 22-year-old singer Adesina Afeez, popularly known as Destiny Boy. The police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death, with the case now being handled by the State Criminal Investigation Department’s Homicide Section.

According to the police, the investigation began after reports of Destiny Boy’s death emerged on social media, with disturbing videos showing his lifeless body being taken to a mortuary. The videos sparked widespread mourning and speculation about the cause of his death. One of the videos showed the singer’s body in the back of a vehicle, with cotton wool in his ears and nostrils.

In an attempt to address the rumors surrounding his death, an associate of the singer released a video stating that Destiny Boy had been battling a health issue prior to his passing. The associate claimed that despite efforts to save him, the singer did not survive.

Destiny Boy, whose real name was Afeez Adeshina, was a rising star in the music industry, known for blending traditional Fuji music with contemporary sounds. He began his career as a backup dancer for renowned Fuji singer Pasuma at T2 Boys Studios in Agege, Lagos. He gained widespread recognition in 2019 after releasing a Fuji-style cover of Davido’s hit track “If,” which went viral online. He also released covers of songs by other popular artists, including Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice, and Small Doctor.

In his personal life, Destiny Boy had recently welcomed his first child with his partner, Iremide, in November 2024. The police have assured the public that they will release more information about the investigation as it progresses. The arrest of the suspect and the ongoing investigation are significant steps towards uncovering the truth behind Destiny Boy’s death, and the police are working to provide answers to the many questions surrounding the incident.
