The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, has announced a three-day period of mourning to honour the late Major General Chris Alli (retd).
In a statement by Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, it was disclosed that Gen Alli, a former Chief of Army Staff, passed away on November 19, 2023.
Under the directive, all Nigerian Army formations and units have been instructed to hoist their flags at half-mast as a symbol of collective grief and respect.
“Additionally, all personnel are required to wear a black hand band in remembrance of the late former COAS,” the statement further added.
The statement highlighted Gen Alli’s unwavering dedication to serving the nation through the Nigerian Army with unyielding commitment and professionalism in the defence of our nation.
“During this time of mourning, the Nigerian Army stands in solidarity with the family, friends, and loved ones of the late Maj Gen Chris Alli,” it further expressed.
All personnel have been urged to strictly adhere to these instructions “as a mark of honour and respect for our fallen hero.” The period of mourning presents an opportunity for all “to reflect upon his accomplishments and the sacrifices made by our gallant soldiers in defence of our dear nation,” the Nigerian Army emphasized.
