The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State has retained Hon. Rufus Bature as its State Chairman following his re-election at the party’s state congress held in Jos on Tuesday.
The congress, which drew delegates from across the state, was witnessed by key political figures including Governor Caleb Mutfwang, Deputy Governor Josephine Piyo, members of the National and State Assemblies, and party elders. Observers from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) were also present.
Hon. Oscar Yelwa, Chairman of the State Congress Committee, declared the exercise successful, praising members for conducting it through consensus and democratic engagement. He stated the congress aimed to inaugurate a new state executive to manage party affairs.
In his acceptance speech, Bature described his re-election as a “huge responsibility,” highlighting his extensive service to the state under three previous administrations. He pledged to reposition the APC for greater strength ahead of the 2027 general elections, asserting that failure is not an option. He assured that the new executive would uphold the party’s ideals and meet the expectations of Plateau residents.
Governor Mutfwang described the congress as historic and urged unwavering unity among party members. He emphasized the critical need for aggressive grassroots mobilization, tasking every registered APC member in the state to campaign actively and recruit at least 10 new members.
The re-election of Bature, a key party figure, signifies continued internal consensus within the Plateau APC as it strategizes for future electoral contests. The governor’s call for mass recruitment underscores the party’s focus on expanding its membership base as a foundation for the 2027 elections. The new executive is now tasked with steering the party’s affairs and implementing this mobilization directive across the state’s 17 local government areas.
