The Governor of Kwara State, situated in North Central Nigeria, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has given assurances of the safety of youth corps members throughout their service year in the state.
This affirmation was made at the conclusion of the orientation course for the 2023 Batch ‘C’ Stream 1 youth corps members at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp in Yikpata, Edu local government area of the state.
Speaking through the Senior Adviser and Counselor, Alhaji Sa’adu Salahu, the governor restated the state government’s commitment to not only ensuring the security of the youth corps members but also their general welfare.
“Accordingly, we are in constant liaison with security agencies and other stakeholders to ensure your safety as well as address other essential needs for a fulfilling service year,” the governor said.
While emphasizing the need for vigilance, the governor advised the youth corps members to avoid risky engagements such as staying out late at night, attending night parties, visiting dangerous places, and accepting car rides from strangers.
Furthermore, AbdulRazaq urged the youth corps members to refrain from drug abuse and trafficking, cybercrime, advanced-fee fraud, and other vices that could jeopardize their future aspirations.
He encouraged them to maintain the commendable patriotic zeal and high level of discipline they demonstrated during the orientation camp.
“My dear compatriots, the next phase of the service year is of great significance as the entire nation looks up to you for your expected roles in advancing the unity and development of our fatherland. I, therefore, urge you to sustain the spirit of patriotism, hard work, and resilience which you have imbibed during the orientation course,” AbdulRazaq charged the youth corps members.
Furthermore, the governor advised them to build on the skills acquired during the vocational and entrepreneurial training at the camp by embracing opportunities for post-camp training.
He implored them to accept their primary assignments wherever they were posted and make a positive impact on their host communities.
The governor also appealed to employers not to reject youth corps members deployed to their organizations but rather to create enabling environments for them to operate and excel.
He urged stakeholders, including the traditional rulers of the host communities, to provide maximum support to the youth corps members posted to their areas.
He commended the state coordinator of the NYSC and his team for their outstanding work at the camp.
The closing ceremony saw a total of 1,390 youth corps members passing out, with the State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Onifade Olaoluwa Joshua, in attendance.
