Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has denounced the governorship election petitions tribunal’s judgment as “a miscarriage of justice” and vowed to challenge the ruling at the Court of Appeal. The tribunal, which was hearing a petition filed by All Progressives Congress candidate Adegboyega Oyetola against Adeleke’s victory in the July 16 governorship election, annulled the results on Friday. Justice Tetsea Kume, delivering the majority opinion, held that the Independent National Electoral Commission had not substantially complied with the constitution and the provisions of the Electoral Act.
From his home in Ede, Adeleke criticized the tribunal’s decision on the issue of over‑voting, calling it “an unfair interpretation against the will of the majority of voters.” He urged his supporters to remain calm and affirmed that he would appeal the judgment, insisting he is the rightful winner of the July 16 election. In a statement signed by his spokesman, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke said, “I call on our people to remain calm. We will appeal the judgment, and we are sure justice will be done. Let our people be reassured that we will do everything possible to retain this widely acclaimed mandate.”
