PAN warns farmers using antibiotics in raising chickens, other birds

The Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN) has cautioned farmers against the use of antibiotics in raising chickens and others birds.

PAN Lagos State Chairman issued the warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday.

Mojeed Iyiola said the usage made local egg powder unacceptable outside the country.

The chairman noted that doing the right thing would boost productivity as well as profitability.

“We warn farmers to desist from the use of antibiotics in grooming their birds to enable our egg powder gain entrance into the international markets”, he told NAN.

Iyiola said instead of antibiotics, poultry owners can make use of probiotics.

The PAN leader, however, commended the Lagos government for setting up an egg powder production factory in the state.
