Air Chief Advocates Mentorship and Discipline at Meeting with Senior Officers

The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, has urged Air Warrant Officers (AWOs) and Regimental Sergeant Majors (RSMs) to uphold discipline, regimentation, professionalism, and efficient service delivery within the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).

Abubakar stressed the importance of mentoring junior airmen and airwomen by sharing knowledge, skills, and experience. He delivered this charge during a Retreat for AWOs and RSMs from various units across the nation, as stated by NAF Spokesman, Air Commodore Edward Gavkwet.

Emphasizing the significance of mentorship, the air chief pointed out the substantial experience and knowledge possessed by AWOs, RSMs, and other Senior-Non-Commissioned Officers (SNCOs) in the NAF. He expressed concern over the decline in mentoring within the Non-Commissioned Officers’ (NCO) cadre over the years and urged AWOs and RSMs to revive the culture of mentorship.

Abubakar highlighted the pivotal role of AWOs and RSMs as intermediaries between the officers’ cadre and other ranks, emphasizing the need for impartiality in the discharge of their responsibilities. He underscored the importance of maintaining high standards of discipline, noting the responsibility of AWOs and RSMs in ensuring the disciplined conduct of airmen and airwomen under their commands.

Addressing the escalating trend of indiscipline, including drug abuse, sentry duty offenses, and instances of Absence Without Leave (AWOL) across various units, Abubakar called for immediate action to combat this menace. He urged AWOs and RSMs to play a critical role in curbing these challenges.
