The Nigerian Army has acknowledged the pivotal role of the media in shaping public opinion as crucial to national development.
Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), highlighted this during the Nigerian Army Fourth Quarter Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) Media Chat held at Command Guest House Sokoto. The theme of the chat was “Media as a Force Multiplier in NA Operations.”
Representing General Lagbaja at the event, Major General Godwin Mutkut, the General Officer Commanding 8 Division and Commander North-West Operation HADARIN DAJI, emphasized that the Army’s CIMIC Media Chat provides a platform for engaging and dialoguing with media practitioners.
According to Gen. Lagbaja, this platform aims to facilitate the exchange of valuable information and ideas for the common prosperity of Nigeria. He noted that the media chat offers a rare opportunity to engage various media practitioners and influencers, ultimately benefiting both the Nigerian Army and the media.

The Army Chief emphasized that achieving peace and security necessitates harnessing the collective strength of well-meaning individuals and organizations to address Nigeria’s contemporary security challenges. This entails a whole of nation approach, where all individuals and organizations collaborate to defeat the common enemy.
Furthermore, he stressed that aside from fostering cordial relationships and keeping media practitioners informed, the platform also serves to dispel rumours and provide accurate, timely information to the media, aligning with global best practices.
Gen. Lagbaja disclosed that the Nigerian Army has received modern equipment and combat enablers, with plans for further provision already in place.
“The new additions to our operational capacity have been deployed, yielding positive effects across various theatres of operations. Measures have been put in place to ensure that our troops are well-trained and capable of fulfilling their constitutional responsibilities,” he affirmed.
He also reassured the nation of the unwavering loyalty of the officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army to President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
