The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) rejected the verdict of the Osun State governorship election petitions tribunal, which removed Governor Ademola Adeleke from office. They characterized the ruling as a “black market purchased judgment.” In a statement released on Friday, Mark Adebayo, the Co-National Spokesperson for CUPP, expressed optimism that justice would ultimately prevail.
Adebayo stated, “We are not perturbed because justice will eventually be done in this case.” He drew a parallel between the current fuel scarcity affecting the nation and the tribunal’s decision, suggesting that just as motorists are forced to resort to the black market for fuel, the judgment should be viewed as similarly illegitimate. He expressed confidence that higher courts would overturn this ruling, describing it as a temporary attempt to undermine the will of the Osun State people.
He further emphasized that the judicial system has mechanisms in place to rectify such injustices, asserting that the split decision of the tribunal reflects its lack of merit. Adebayo reaffirmed that the mandate given to Governor Adeleke by the people of Osun State remains intact and warned that any efforts to usurp it would ultimately fail.
