Hajia Naja’atu Mohammed, a former Director of the Presidential Campaign Council for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has publicly accused her former party of harboring individuals linked to terrorism. During a television interview on Arise Television, she specifically alleged that the APC’s vice presidential candidate, Kashim Shettima, is a sponsor of terrorism. Naja’atu pointed out that a notorious terrorist, Kabiru Sokoto, was arrested in Shettima’s home when he was the governor of Borno State. This revelation comes in the wake of her resignation from the APC and Bola Tinubu’s campaign team just weeks before the February 25 elections. She cited recent developments in the political landscape as the reason for her departure, stating that it had become untenable for her to continue in party politics.
In response to her resignation, Tinubu’s campaign council claimed that Naja’atu was dismissed for being a mole within the campaign team. Expounding on her reasons for leaving, Naja’atu emphasized the importance of security in governance, arguing that one cannot appoint individuals associated with terrorism, such as Shettima, to positions of power. She questioned why Shettima would show solidarity with a policeman facing drug trafficking charges, further implying that these connections raise serious concerns about his suitability for office. Naja’atu insisted that Nigerians must reclaim their country, asserting that the current situation is unacceptable.
Naja’atu also highlighted that mineral exploitation is at the core of terrorism in Nigeria, particularly in the northern regions. She described terrorism and banditry as a multi-billion dollar industry, noting that illegal mining activities are rampant in areas like Zamfara, which is rich in strategic minerals, including gold and blue diamonds. She alleged that powerful individuals, including some governors, collaborate with foreign mercenaries to displace local populations, facilitating illegal resource extraction
