President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo have extended their condolences to Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State following the tragic loss of his son, Hassan. The deceased, who was 36 years old, had recently married his first wife, Hajiya Silifat Sule, in June of the previous year. Hassan passed away on Thursday night after a brief illness. President Buhari’s message of condolence was conveyed in a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, titled “President Buhari condoles with Gov. Sule of Nasarawa State over losses.” In his message, Buhari expressed, “My deepest and heartfelt condolences to the Governor and his family on the tragic death of his worthy son, Hassan.” He also offered condolences to the government and people of Nasarawa State in light of the recent tragedy involving herdsmen.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, also expressed his sympathies to Governor Sule during a visit to Gudi town in Nasarawa State. He remarked, “This is a very tragic and sad day indeed for me, as I am sure it is for all of you here in Nasarawa. I want to say to my brother, the governor, and to members of the family, as well as your Royal Highness and all those who are here to condole with him, that we pray the Almighty God will comfort him and members of the family. We pray that God who gives and takes will have mercy on him, the family, and on all of us.”

Governor Sule described the passing of his eldest son, Hassan, as a test from God. He shared this perspective on Friday while receiving condolences at the palace of his father, the Sarkin Gudi, HRH Alhaji Sule Bawa, in Akwanga Local Government Area. The governor reflected on the teachings of the Holy Qur’an, stating that God promises to test the faith of every believer, saying, “This is my time to be tested.” He added, “I see this as a test from God. I was the person consoling somebody who lost his nine children and 70 cows yesterday (Thursday), and today God decided to test me, to see whether I was sincere in consoling that bereaved father.” He characterized his late son as a calm, disciplined, and obedient young man who treated his siblings with equal respect and mutual regard.

In related news, Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, has also expressed his condolences to the government and people of Nasarawa State regarding the recent bomb explosion that claimed the lives of 30 individuals. He extended his sympathies to Governor Abdullahi Sule over the death of his eldest son, Hassan Sule. A statement from the Tinubu Media Office, signed by Mr. Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, noted that while mourning the unfortunate deaths from the tragic explosion, the community faced yet another tragedy.
