Buhari Jika, the younger brother of Haliru Jika, the governorship candidate for the New Nigeria People’s Party in Bauchi State, along with several of his relatives, has defected from their party to join the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). This move is in support of Governor Bala Mohammed’s bid for a second term. Additionally, Auwalu Ganjuwa, the Campaign Coordinator for former Governor Mohammed Abubakar, and Abbas Barde, the state chairman of the Aspirants’ Forum, have also joined the PDP. Their defection was announced during a re-election campaign rally for Governor Mohammed on Friday evening at Kafin Madaki, the headquarters of Ganjuwa Local Government Area in Bauchi State.
The defectors cited their decision as a result of being convinced by the governor’s developmental initiatives aimed at transforming the state. They expressed dissatisfaction with Halliru Jika, the senator representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District, for failing to support Governor Mohammed by facilitating federal intervention projects in their area. The defectors pledged to mobilize support for the incumbent governor’s re-election campaign to help him continue providing people-oriented projects.
In response to the defections, Governor Mohammed expressed his gratitude, viewing it as a testament to the acceptance of his leadership style. Prior to the rally, the governor inspected the ongoing construction of several strategic roads that connect towns and villages within the local government area. He assured the community of the swift completion of these projects, which include the road linking Gubi, Gidan Waya to Kamfanin Fulani, as well as the Soro, Ganjuwa to Miya road.
