Renowned artist, Teniola Apata, commonly known as Teni, has revealed an unconventional source for learning the Yoruba language – YouTube.

The 31-year-old vocalist, despite being of Yoruba descent, admitted to acquiring fluency in the language by immersing herself in Yoruba movies on the popular video-sharing platform while residing in America.

Speaking on the Zero Conditions podcast, she shared, “Do you know how I learnt to speak Yoruba? It was when I went to America. I learnt it from YouTube. I was watching Yoruba films like mad.”

In a candid revelation during the interview, Teni also disclosed her newfound interest in alcohol, stating that she only commenced drinking in 2021, having abstained from alcohol and tobacco consumption earlier.

The singer conveyed that her decision to commence alcohol consumption was purely “for fun.”
