During the presentation of the 2024 Federal budget proposal at a joint session of the National Assembly in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu outlined the top priorities for the 2024 Budget of Renewed Hope. The budget puts a strong emphasis on national defence, internal security, job creation, macro-economic stability, human capital development, social security, poverty reduction, and an optimized investment environment.

President Tinubu emphasized the need to overhaul Nigeria’s internal security architecture to enhance law enforcement capabilities and ensure the protection of lives, property, and investments across the nation.

Furthermore, he highlighted the budget’s focus on human capital development, particularly for children, recognizing human capital as the most critical resource for national development.

Tinubu also stressed the government’s commitment to ensuring value for money, greater transparency, and accountability in budget performance. He revealed plans to collaborate closely with development partners and the private sector to achieve these goals.

Addressing the persistent challenges in the education sector, the President revealed plans to implement a more sustainable funding model for tertiary education. This includes the introduction of the Student Loan Scheme, scheduled to be operational by January 2024.
